Last month Hurst proved the benefits of a solid turbo kit when they announced the Redline Series Hurst Camaro. Teaming up with BFGoodrich they took a 2010 Camaro RS V6 and turned it into a beast. The heart and soul of this monster V6 is the STS Turbocharger mounted at the rear of the car to Hurst’s modified exhaust system. According to Hurst this turbo provides a 50% power gain pushing the car to 360 rear wheel HP at 6800 RPM. As if that wasn’t enough the Redline also boasts 30% better fuel economy than the 2010 6.2L V8 Camaro SS.
Along with the STS Turbo Hurst and BFGoodrich added the Hurst/Detroit Speed coil-over suspension, sway bars, BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec Redline Edition tires and included the Hurst Hard-Drive “Pistol Grip” shifter.
To highlight the mechanical changes the Camaro was given some aerodynamic enhancements, a Hurst Air Speed spoiler, five spoke 18 inch Hurst T1 alloy wheels and a custom paint and graphics package.
Hurst plans to build a limited quantity of these bad boys allowing for only 50 a year. Price is estimated in the low to mid $50,000 range and a few extras are available such as gauge package and Hurst/Katzkin leather seating.
With this car Hurst really demonstrated the strengths of a good turbo kit. They took a 3.6L V6 and pushed it close to the power output of the much bigger 6.2L V8 and they did it with better fuel efficiency. That’s what a turbo is all about.
